Maui Little Leaguers Overcome Wildfire Devastation to Reach World Series

From Adversity to Triumph

In the face of adversity, the Central Maui Little League team persevered and emerged victorious. Despite the devastation caused by a wildfire in 2018, the team's spirit remained unyielding, leading them to a historic triumph at the Little League World Series.

Blazing a Trail

In 2018, a wildfire scorched the hillsides around Lahaina, Maui, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Kolten Magno, then 6 years old, was among those affected by the blaze. The experience left a lasting impact on the young pitcher.

Undeterred by the challenges they faced, the Central Maui team rallied together. They dedicated their season to overcoming adversity and honoring their community.

Pitching to Success

Evan Tavares, a star pitcher for Central Maui, played a pivotal role in the team's success. In the West Regional tournament, Tavares struck out 13 batters, propelling Maui to victory and securing their spot in the Little League World Series.

Tavares' exceptional performance is a testament to the team's determination and unwavering spirit.

Making History

The Little League World Series kicked off on Wednesday, and Central Maui made history as the first team from Hawaii to reach the prestigious tournament since 2014.

The team, representing players from Wailuku, Kahului, and Lahaina, arrived in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, alongside 16 other teams from around the world, ready to compete at the highest level.
